Blog System version 3 and earlier - blog categories management

Posted on: June 5, 2019

Blog System allows you create blog categories and sub categories per every language version supported. Please note that if you haven't defined any categories for a given language, then the categories for the default language will be displayed (usually this is English) when the users switch to this language version.

You may find below the answers to some frequently asked questions related to the blog categories management.

1.How to add sub categories to a main category?

In order to add subcategories to a selected category, you need to login to the back office as administrator and then go to Settings->Blog Categories. On this page you could see the list with the main categories, near their name you could find an arrow icon Sub Categories - you have to click on it. After you do this, a new page will show up, containing the available sub categories of the selected category. At the top of this page, you'll find a form for adding new sub categories.

2.How to manage the categories for the different language versions?

On the Settings->Blog Categories page in the back office, at the top right corner you could see the flags of the available language versions on your site. You need to click on these flags in order to switch between the different language versions and define the categories for each version.
Please not that it's not required that you enter categories for all the languages. If you leave empty the categories for a language (for example Russian) then on the Russian version of the website the users will see the categories of the default language (English).

3.How the sub categories are displayed on the front site?

The visitors have to choose a main category in order to see the available sub categories in it (the number of blogs currently present in this sub category is shown near the name). Sub categories or main categories which don't have any blogs in them, don't show up. On the signup form the categories and subcategories are displayed in a single drop down menu, for example:
Sport
Sport--->Soccer
...

4.How the administrator can change the category of a blog?

If you want the blogs on your site to be well categorized, it's a good practice to monitor the blogs and change their category if this is needed (like with the categorized search engines like dmoz.org where there is human validation when assigning a website to a category).

In order to change the category of a blog, you need go to Bloggers in the back office and then select the Users page where you'll see the list of the user blogs. You have to click on the Change icon and then in the new form which will show up select the appropriate category.
