Blog addresses: folder, subdomain and custom domain
Each blog is reachable at a free address on your platform, and bloggers on a suitable plan can connect their own domain name.

The three kinds of address
| Kind | Example | Setup |
|---|---|---|
| Folder (path) | example.com/blog/mia-travels | Works out of the box |
| Subdomain | mia-travels.example.com | Wildcard DNS record and root domain setting |
| Custom domain | miatravels.com | Plan feature, DNS record by the blogger |
Choosing the platform mode
Go to Blog settings › Blog options and set Blog URL mode to Path or Subdomain. For subdomains also enter your Blog root domain (for example example.com).
Setting up subdomains
- In your DNS add a wildcard record
*.example.compointing to your server (A record). - Make your web server answer for all subdomains (a wildcard virtual host on Apache or a wildcard server name on Nginx).
- Choose Subdomain mode and enter the root domain in Blog options.
Custom domains
A package with the Custom domain feature lets the blogger enter their own domain in My blog › Domain. The blogger points the domain to your server (CNAME to your main host or A record to the server IP). The domain becomes active when the DNS points to your platform. See Connect a custom domain for the blogger's steps.
Administrator overrideIn Bloggers › Edit blogger you can set or activate a domain manually.
HTTPSFor custom domains over HTTPS your server needs a certificate for each domain, for example with automatic certificates from Let's Encrypt.
