Email notifications for new votes
Receive an email when someone votes. Set the admin email, switch notifications on globally and per poll, send a test email and fix mail problems on your server.
PHPPoll can send you an email whenever a vote is cast. The message contains the poll title, the total number of votes and a link to the results page.
Switch notifications on
- Open Settings → Notifications.
- Enter your Admin email.
- Turn on Email notifications for new votes.
- Click Save and send test email to check that mails arrive.
Then decide per poll: on the Messages & data tab of the poll editor, the switch Email me about new votes is on by default and can be switched off for polls that are too busy. See Thank-you message, redirect and closed message.
How it works
- PHPPoll uses the standard PHP
mail()function. No SMTP configuration is required, but your hosting must allow it. - The sender is
noreply@your-domain. - The subject is "New vote: <poll title>". You can translate it. See Translate PHPPoll into your language.
The test email does not arrive
- Check the spam folder.
- Look at Settings → System. If the email function is missing, ask your hosting provider to enable
mail(). - Some hosts only deliver mail from addresses of your own domain. Make sure the website domain has proper mail records (SPF).
- For high-traffic polls consider switching notifications off. One email per vote can flood your inbox.
Poll notifications contain no personal data from the voter. Names, emails and comments are visible in the results page. See Collect voter details and comments.
