PHPPoll offers five poll types. The type is selected at the top of the Question tab and can be changed later.

Overview
| Type | Visitors can… | Best for | Guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single choice | pick one answer | Opinion polls, yes/no questions, favourites | Choice polls |
| Multiple choice | pick several answers (with a limit) | Interests, features wanted, "select all that apply" | Choice polls |
| Image choice | tap a picture | Design contests, logos, product photos | Image polls |
| Star rating | rate from 1 to 3-10 stars | Satisfaction, content quality, product reviews | Star rating polls |
| NPS 0-10 | rate their likelihood to recommend | Customer loyalty, company benchmarking | NPS (Net Promoter Score) polls |
Which type should I choose?
- You want to know which option wins: single choice (or image choice for pictures).
- You want to find all the interests of your audience: multiple choice.
- You want a score that you can track over time: star rating or NPS.
Changing the type of an existing poll
You can switch the type of a poll that already has votes, but old votes belong to the old structure. Results of choice polls are matched by option, ratings by number, so switching between choice and rating types leaves the earlier votes unused. For a clean result, create a new poll and keep the old one closed.
Charts per type
Choice and image polls can show bars, columns, donut or pie charts. Star rating polls show the average with a distribution bar for every star value, and NPS polls show the score with a promoter/passive/detractor split. See Chart types for poll results.
