How to exclude your own IP address and private pages from statistics
Your own page views distort the numbers, especially on a small website. Tell VisitAnalytics to ignore them.
Ignore your own IP address in one click
- Open Settings → Tracking.
- Under What to count you see Your IP and the button Ignore my own visits. Press it.
- The address is added to the list Ignore these IP addresses. Visits from it are not recorded any more.
You can do the same from the The Bot filter: see which robots were kept out of your statistics: the × button next to a filtered request adds that IP address to the list.
Writing the list by hand
One entry per line. Three formats work:
| Format | Example | Matches |
|---|---|---|
| Single address | 203.0.113.7 | exactly this address (IPv6 works as well) |
| Wildcard | 198.51.100.* | 198.51.100.0 to 198.51.100.255 |
| Range (CIDR) | 10.0.0.0/8 | the whole network, for example your office |
Dynamic IP addresses. Most home connections change their address from time to time. If your own visits show up again, repeat the click. For a fixed solution exclude the whole range of your provider or office with a CIDR entry.
Ignoring pages
The list Ignore pages starting with contains addresses that are never recorded. The default is:
/wp-admin /wp-login.php /admin
Add private areas, staging folders or thank-you pages for test orders. A page matches when its address starts with a line of the list.
Check your own IP address
The Tracking tab shows the address that VisitAnalytics sees for you ("Your IP"). Behind Cloudflare or another proxy this can be wrong until you set Where to read the visitor IP correctly – see Cloudflare, proxies and load balancers: get the real visitor IP.
Excluded visits are not stored at all, so they cannot be restored later. Past visits of that address stay in the statistics.
