Overview charts: heat map, new vs returning visitors and more

Scroll down the Overview and it keeps answering questions: when are people online, are they new, how long do they stay and where do they come from?

Top pages, traffic sources, countries, devices

Short "top 8" lists of the most important reports. Click View all in a card to open the full report: Pages report: most viewed pages, time on page and exit rate, Traffic sources: search, social, email, paid, direct and referral, Locations: visitor countries, languages and time zones and Devices, browsers, operating systems and screen sizes.

Busiest times of the week

The heat map has a row for every weekday and a column for every hour (in your website's time zone). The darker the square, the more page views. Use it to choose the best time to publish an article, send a newsletter or schedule maintenance. Hover over a square to see the exact number. The first weekday follows your Week starts on setting (General settings: website name, language, time zone and date format).

New vs returning visitors

A visit counts as new when the same visitor was not seen in the 90 days before, nor earlier in the selected period. All other visits are returning. Because VisitAnalytics uses no cookies, a returning visitor is recognized by the same IP address and browser; visitors who change network or browser look new again.

Visit duration and pages per visit

Two bar charts show how visits are distributed: from 0 seconds up to over ten minutes, and from 1 page up to 6 or more. Many visits at "0s" usually mean single-page visits that cannot be timed – keep human verification on for exact times.

Bots filtered

This card shows how many robot requests were kept out of your numbers in the period, their share of all requests and a trend line. Press Details to open the The Bot filter: see which robots were kept out of your statistics.

Top referring websites and entry pages

The last row lists the websites that send most visitors and the pages where visits start, with their bounce rate. See Entry pages and exit pages: where visits start and end.
