System requirements
VisitAnalytics runs on almost any web hosting. The only real requirements are PHP and a folder that PHP can write to.
Server
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| PHP | 7.2 or newer. PHP 8.x is recommended and fully supported. |
| Web server | Apache, nginx, LiteSpeed or IIS. On Apache the included .htaccess files protect internal folders automatically; on nginx you add one rule (see Securing VisitAnalytics: protect the data folder and the admin panel). |
| Database | None. Statistics are stored in XML files. |
| Write access | PHP must be able to create files in the VisitAnalytics folder (for config.php) and in its data folder. |
| PHP extensions | Only standard ones. mbstring is used when available but is not required. SimpleXML is needed only for importing old statistics. |
| Disk space | The script itself needs about 12 MB (most of it is the country database). Statistics are small: roughly 250 KB per day for every 1,000 page views. |
| Website | The website must be PHP-based, because the tracking code is a PHP include in one of its files. For static HTML sites see the FAQ. |
Your website
The tracking code is added to a PHP file that is executed on every page load, normally the index.php of your website or CMS (WordPress, Joomla, custom scripts and frameworks all work). VisitAnalytics records a visit only for normal HTML pages that are delivered with status 200 (or 404, for the broken links report).
Full-page caching. If a caching plugin or CDN serves complete HTML pages without running PHP, those page loads never reach the tracking code. Exclude the pages from the cache or use a cache that still runs PHP. See Troubleshooting: no visits recorded, wrong IP, empty reports.
Admin panel browsers
The admin panel works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and their mobile versions. It needs JavaScript enabled in your own browser (for charts and menus), but the tracking itself does not need JavaScript on the visitor side.
